Privacy Commissioner Attends the Opening Ceremony cum Seminar of the “National Security Education Day”

The Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (Privacy Commissioner), Ms Ada CHUNG Lai-ling, attended the Opening Ceremony cum Seminar of the “National Security Education Day” on 15 April. The theme of this year’s National Security Education Day is “Proactively Align with the 15th Five-Year Plan  Follow a Holistic Approach to Development and Security.”

The Privacy Commissioner said, “Cybersecurity, data security and artificial intelligence security are major fields of the holistic approach to national security. My Office will continue to strengthen our relevant work in its role as an enforcer, facilitator and educator to ensure that organisations comply with the relevant requirements of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance, with a view to safeguarding national security and fully protecting the personal data privacy of members of the public.”

On 1 July 2015, the National Security Law of the Country was passed at the 15th meeting of the Standing Committee of the 12th National People’s Congress, and the National People’s Congress designated 15 April of each year as the “National Security Education Day”. This year marks the 11th “National Security Education Day”, sixth anniversary of the implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law, as well as the second anniversary of the implementation of the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance.

The Privacy Commissioner, Ms Ada CHUNG Lai-ling, attended the Opening Ceremony cum Seminar of the “National Security Education Day”.
