Reaching Out to the Community - PCPD’s Representative Interviewed by Media to Explain New Guidance on Handling Abuse of AI Deepfakes

Senior Legal Counsel of the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD), Ms Joyce LIU, was interviewed by TVB News’ “A Closer Look” to explain the guidance on “Abuse of AI Deepfakes: Toolkit for Schools and Parents” (Toolkit) recently published by the PCPD.

Ms LIU pointed out that people with malicious intent may download students’ photos or videos from public platforms to create malicious deepfakes materials. To assist schools and parents in preventing and handling deepfake incidents, the PCPD has published the Toolkit to provide practical advice to them. She suggested that if schools need to publish students’ photos or videos, they should make decisions based on the nature of the activity and actual circumstances, in accordance with their school-based policy.
