Promoting Cross-Boundary Flow of Personal Information – Privacy Commissioner’s Office organises Seminar on “Cross-boundary Flow of Personal Information Within the Greater Bay Area”
The Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD) organised a Seminar on “Cross-boundary Flow of Personal Information Within the Greater Bay Area” on 9 April, which attracted more than 130 participants from various sectors, including banking, legal, government/ public bodies and insurance.
The Government Chief Information Officer (Government Chief Information Officer), Ir. Tong Wong, JP, and Senior Systems Manager of the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer, Ms Joyce Yiu, were invited to provide an overview of the facilitation measures of the Standard Contract for Cross-boundary Flow of Personal Information Within the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area (Mainland, Hong Kong) (GBA SC), including the relevant filing requirements and an update on the “early and pilot implementation” arrangement of the GBA SC. At the Seminar, the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (Privacy Commissioner), Ms Ada CHUNG Lai-ling, and Senior Legal Counsel (Acting) of the PCPD, Ms Clemence Wong, also explained the obligations and responsibilities of contracting parties under the GBA SC, and highlighted the requirements under the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance in transferring personal data out of Hong Kong as well as the specified relaxation provisions under the Regulations on Facilitating and Regulating Cross-Border Data Flow recently issued by the Cyberspace Administration of China.
