The Privacy Commissioner, Ms Ada CHUNG Lai-ling, Expresses Condolences for the Passing of Former Privacy Commissioner, Mr Roderick WOO Bun

The Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (Privacy Commissioner), Ms Ada CHUNG Lai-ling and colleagues of the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD), expressed deepest sorrow over the passing of the former Privacy Commissioner, Mr Roderick WOO Bun, JP.
 
Mr Woo was appointed as the Privacy Commissioner from 2005 to 2010 and served as the President of the Law Society of Hong Kong from 1993 to 1996. In 2014, he was admitted to the Law Society of Hong Kong’s Roll of Honour.
 
Ms Ada CHUNG Lai-ling said, “During Mr Woo’s tenure as the Privacy Commissioner, he investigated various organisations’ personal data incidents, including the personal data incident of Octopus. He implemented effective measures to strengthen the enforcement of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance and conducted inspections and investigations into major personal data systems of concern to the public to facilitate compliance with the requirement of the Ordinance. In addition, he spearheaded the hosting of the first Asia Pacific Privacy Authorities Forum in Hong Kong during his tenure. He has made significant contributions to the protection of personal data privacy.”
 
“My colleagues and I are saddened by the passing of Mr Woo and wish to extend our deepest condolences to his family.” Ms Chung said.
