Writing Competition

Opening Ceremony cum Youth Privacy
Survey
The Privacy
Commissioner for Personal Data, Mr. Roderick B Woo, kicked off the
PAW 2007 and unveiled all related activities to the press in Hong
Kong.
Results of a survey conducted
by the Office of Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, Hong Kong,
has also been released. The survey aimed at gauging young
people's attitude and perception towards privacy in the cyberspace
in Hong Kong.

Mak were invited to share their views with young people on online
privacy protection and creative blog writing. Over 200 participants
attended the seminar.
To make the event more fun and
interesting, a debate on "There is no privacy protection in the
cyber world" will also be held. Representations from Hong
Kong Girl Guides and Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups took part
in this interesting fund debate.

Seminar on "Protecting Personal Data in the Electronic Media"
To help IT professionals
and data controlling officers handle database that contain large amount
of personal data, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal
Data organized an open seminar together with three major IT professional
bodies on 26 March 2007. Overwhelming response was received from over
340 participants of different sectors, namely government departments,
telecommunications, financial institutions, educational institutions and
public sector organizations.

We are proud to announce
that the "Pursuing Excellence - Protecting Personal Data" Hotel
Privacy Campaign has received tremendous support by the hotel industry.
In total, 44 hotels participated in the Campaign and over 1,000 individuals
tried out the Online Self-Training Module.
In concluding the
Campaign, a prize presentation ceremony was held on 14 December 2006.

A Hotel Privacy Campaign,
titled "Pursuing Excellence - Protecting Personal Data", is
jointly organized by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal
Data and the Hong Kong Hotels Association to raise hotel practitioners'
awareness of privacy risks in their everyday work and reinforce the need
for them to take precautionary steps to protect personal data privacy.
To provide them with
practical guidance on day-to-day operation, the campaign will offer various
forms of training, including seminars, display panels, games, self-training
module and quizzes. In addition, a writing competition will be organized
for hotel personnel to express their feelings about and experiences of
the protection of personal data through essays and short stories.
The inauguration ceremony
of the campaign was officiated by the Privacy Commissioner for Personal
Data, Mr. Roderick Woo, the Executive Director of the Hong Kong Hotels
Association, Mr. James Lu and renowed artist Miss Sheren Tang on 27 June.

2006, staff of the Commissioner's Office has carried out promotional activities
in individual hotels to raise hotel practitioners' awareness of the protection
of personal data privacy, via seminars, display panels, games and on-the-spot
explanation of personal data privacy issues to hotel staff.

To cope with the irregular
working hours and diversified work nature of hotel practitioners, the
Commissioner's Office has specially developed an on-line self-training
module for them to learn at their convenience and at their own pace.
