Promoting AI Security – Privacy Commissioner Publishes an Article titled “Strengthening AI Governance” in The Bulletin

The Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (Privacy Commissioner), Ms Ada CHUNG Lai-ling, published an article titled “Strengthening AI Governance” in The Bulletin, the magazine of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce.

In the article, the Privacy Commissioner cited the findings from a 2024 survey conducted by her Office, which revealed that nearly 70% of enterprises recognised significant privacy risks posed by the use of artificial intelligence (AI). She emphasised that awareness alone is not sufficient and that organisations must take proactive action to ensure that employees use AI safely and in compliance with the requirements of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance. To that end, she recommended that organisations refer to the “Checklist on Guidelines for the Use of Generative AI by Employees” published by her Office earlier for developing internal policies or guidelines on employees’ use of generative AI. By implementing a comprehensive AI policy, organisations can harness the benefits of AI while safeguarding personal data privacy.
