Showcasing Hong Kong – Privacy Commissioner Speaks at the 6th National Data Privacy Conference of the National Privacy Commission, the Philippines

The Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (Privacy Commissioner), Ms Ada CHUNG Lai-ling, spoke through video recording at the 6th National Data Privacy Conference themed “Empowering DPOs and Protecting Personal Data Privacy Rights of Filipinos” held by the National Privacy Commission (NPC) of the Philippines on 25 May 2023. The conference was one of the events of the NPC’s Privacy Awareness Week 2023.

In her speech, the Privacy Commissioner pointed out that the values of data and data privacy have been increasingly important in the digital age. She stressed that a secure, responsible and ethical use of data must be a priority for all organisations in making operational decisions.

The Privacy Commissioner also shared her insights as to how an effective privacy management program (PMP) could be implemented by companies so that they could garner trust from their customers while laying a solid bedrock for their long-term business sustainability and growth. Apart from explaining the three core components of PMP that the PCPD has been advocating, the Privacy Commissioner also elaborated on the PCPD’s work on promoting the establishment of a PMP, including the publication of a “Best Practice Guide” in August 2018, the establishment of the Data Protection Officers’ Club and the launch of the Privacy-Friendly Awards in 2021.
