Hotel practitioners
handle large amount of personal data in their daily work. In order to
raise privacy awareness among them, the PCPD had invited the Hong Kong
Hotels Association to jointly launch an industry-wide educational campaign
for all local hotels.
The campaign, entitled
"Pursuing Excellence - Protecting Personal Data", offered a
number of training initiatives, including seminars, display panels, games
and a quiz, which provided practical guidance on the collection and use
of personal data. To cater for the industry's work nature i.e. irregular
working hours and diversified duties, the PCPD had also developed an innovative
Online Self-Training Module (www.privacyelearning.org)
to enable hotel personnel to learn relevant data protection skills at
their own convenience and pace.
The campaign had received
overwhelming response from the hotel industry. Over 44 hotels engaged
in more than one of the activities of the campaign. Besides, hotel practitioners
also took keen participation in a writing competition in expressing their
feelings about and experiences of the protection of personal data in daily
life.
In concluding the
Campaign, a prize presentation ceremony was held on 14 December 2006.
Winners of the Writing Competition, Online Self-Training Assessment Competition
and 8 hotels with the highest completion rate of the Self-Training Module
were awarded with cash prizes and trophies. Eight of the participating
hotels with the highest completion rate of the Self-Training Module were
awarded for their enthusiastic support, namely the Island Shangri-La Hong
Kong, JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong, Hotel Miramar, Hotel Nikko Hongkong,
The Peninsula Hong Kong, Prudential Hotel, Renaissance Harbour View Hotel
Hong Kong and The Royal Garden.
