Data
Protection Officers' Club (DPOC)
The Data Protection
Officers' Club (DPOC) continued to provide a critical two-way communication
platform on compliancy practice between the PCPD and public and private
sector organizations. The DPOC was established in 2000 with the primary
aim of providing a channel for two-way communications between the PCPD
and data protection officers across a broad range of organizations. It
has since grown to a membership of 237 data protection officers from a
range of commercial and professional backgrounds.
In May 2005, leading
privacy scholar, Professor Colin Bennett, of the University of Victoria,
Canada, delivered a talk on the globalization of personal data privacy
protection to DPOC members. Members were also updated on prevailing policy
instruments used for data protection across the globe.
As in previous years,
a series of data protection workshops were conducted from September to
October 2005 exclusively for members. Members took the opportunity to
learn the application of data protection principles in the context of
human resource management and monitoring at work and received certificates
upon completion of the courses.
In January 2006, a
meeting was held on the protection of personal data in relation to property
management. Adopting an innovative interactive framework, PCPD staff acted
some common cases on stage so as to encourage members expressing their
views in a more relaxed atmosphere.
