The
Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data has launched a privacy
show amongst primary schools in Hong Kong during the period from 15 March
to 2 April 2004, aimed at conveying the message of protecting and respecting
privacy rights to over 15,000 young students.
The show, entitled
"Telling you my secret", was the first promotion activity organized
exclusively for primary students by the PCPD. To enhance children's interests
on the subject, the PCPD has invited Mr. Harry Wong, a renown youth program
host, to conduct interactive activities integrating music, magic shows,
puppet shows, drama and role play to help youngsters understand the concept
of privacy protection and to introduce ways of protecting their own personal
data and those of their families and friends in everyday lives under a
lively atmosphere.
The PCPD has received
overwhelming responses from over 300 primary schools.

Protection in Action: TV Advertisement Competition

The organziers are
pleased that the competition has received an enthusiastic response from
over 140 young people in Hong Kong. Winners were selected for the creativity,
visual effect and originality of their entries as well as their ability
to convey the message of privacy protection across to viewers.
The winning teams
were announced at a prize presentation ceremony held on 28 June at the
Jockey Club Lecture Theatre at the Sports House. A total of 49 aspiring
young filmmakers were awarded prizes and certificates in recognition of
their outstanding creativity. The prizes were presented by guests of honour
Ms. Shelley Lee, JP, Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr. Yang Ti-liang,
GBM, JP, Former Chief Justice and Executive Councillor and Dr. Cheung
Wing-ming, Registrar of the Hong Kong Institute of Education.

Website Design Competition for Youngsters
This
competition was jointly organized by the PCPD and the Education Department
for secondary school students in Hong Kong. Under the theme of protecting
privacy on the Internet, the competition is designed to raise public awareness
of the protection of personal data privacy in an online environment and
the steps that can be taken to safeguard people's rights.
The
competition received enthusiastic support. 127 entries by 342 participants
from 80 secondary schools were submitted.
