The Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, Hong Kong (PCPD) and the Personal Data Protection Bureau, Macao (PDPB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) earlier with a view to deepening collaboration and fostering exchange in the area of personal data privacy protection, and jointly propelling the digital economy and the high-quality development of Hong Kong, Macao and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Greater Bay Area).
 

Pursuant to the MOU, the scope of collaboration between the two data protection authorities includes the sharing of experiences and good practices in the areas of law enforcement, education and training, the joining of efforts to facilitate the safe and orderly cross-boundary flow of personal information within the Greater Bay Area, as well as the provision of mutual assistance in investigations and enforcement actions, etc.
 

Hong Kong’s Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (Privacy Commissioner), Ms Ada CHUNG Lai-ling, said, “The signing of the MOU between the PCPD and the PDPB will further strengthen the ties between the two regulatory authorities, enabling us to give full vigour to our roles as a ‘super-connector’ and ‘super value-adder’ in collectively addressing the challenges posed to the protection of personal data privacy in the digital age, jointly propel the development of the digital economy in the Greater Bay Area, and thereby contributing to the high-quality development of the Country.”
 

Director of the Macao PDPB, Mr Ken YANG Chongwei, said, “Amid the global wave of digitalisation, new challenges continue to emerge in personal data privacy protection. The signing of the MOU with the PCPD not only promotes an even healthier and orderly development of the digital economy in both Hong Kong and Macao through closer collaboration under the framework of the Greater Bay Area, but also enables us to fully harness the potential of data while safeguarding personal data, thereby injecting new impetus into the economic and societal prosperity of the Greater Bay Area.”
