Asia Pacific GovMedia Awards 2025 Public Sector Initiative of the Year
The Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD) has won the “Hong Kong Public Sector Initiative of the Year – Regulatory” award in the Asia Pacific GovMedia Conference & Awards 2025 for its guidance “Artificial Intelligence: Model Personal Data Protection Framework” (Model Framework).
The Model Framework, which was published in June 2024, aims to assist organisations in complying with the relevant requirements of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance when procuring, customising, implementing, and using AI, including generative AI. The Model Framework provides a set of recommendations and best practices regarding governance of AI based on general business processes, enabling organisations to harness the benefits of AI while safeguarding personal data privacy.
The Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (Privacy Commissioner), Ms Ada CHUNG Lai-ling, expressed her appreciation for the recognition given by GovMedia, the organiser, of PCPD’s efforts in promoting AI security. She said, “My colleagues and I are very honoured to receive this award, which recognises our efforts in enhancing AI security. I am delighted that the Model Framework has not only received widespread recognition and support from the public locally, but was also awarded on international accolade. We will continue our best efforts to promote AI security and safeguard personal data privacy to facilitate the healthy and high-quality development of AI in Hong Kong.”
The GovMedia Conference & Awards 2025 is an awards programme organised by Asia Pacific news platform GovMedia to recognise public sector projects that are transforming the Asia Pacific region and making a global impact. The awards celebrate innovative solutions, excellence in governance and impactful projects that enhance public services and improve the lives of the public.
