To prepare for the on-campus campaigns, the PCPD conducted an online survey from 1 to 28 September 2014 to find out the personal data privacy issues that concerned the university students most. The responses from 1,283 university students revealed that the privacy issue of greatest concern to them is, in descending order of importance, (1) direct marketing, (2) social media and networks, (3) job applications, and (4)smartphones. Details of the survey results are as appended.
To address the privacy risks highlighted in a number of significant data breaches that took place on university campuses in recent years, the PCPD will also organise a series of talks to explain to university staff the obligations of data users under the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance in the areas of administration, teaching, IT mangagement and research work.
