Date: 30 July 2010
The Privacy Commissioner gives interim report on the investigation of Octopus

1.    In order to address public concern on the progress of investigation conducted by this Office, the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, Mr. Roderick B Woo (“the Commissioner”) issued today an interim report on his preliminary findings and recommendations.

2.    “I am aware of the fact that this Office has never before issued an interim report of any investigation but I am conscious of the serious public concern that Octopus should take prompt actions to address the issues which were raised at the public hearing four days ago.  For that reason, I have prepared preliminary findings with interim recommendations to Octopus group of companies. I hope the interim report can facilitate remedial measures to be considered promptly by Octopus” said Mr. Woo.

3.    As the investigation is still in progress, the giving of this interim report shall not affect or prejudice the ultimate determination by the Commissioner.  Such determination will be made after conclusion of the investigation.

4.    The interim report can be downloaded from this Office’s website at http://www.pcpd.org.hk/english/publications/files/OctopusReport_e.pdf.
