The"Value-for-money" Audit Report on PCPD issued by the Director of Audit

1.    In response to media enquiries, Mr. Roderick B Woo, the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (“the Privacy Commissioner”) made the following statements:

2.    The PCPD has received a “value-for-money” audit report from the Audit Commission today.  “The audit report is positively perceived as bringing to the attention of this Office the areas that required improvement in order to achieve efficiency, effectiveness and economy in the utilization of resources; and I acknowledge the fact that there will always be rooms for improvement in this Office.  As indicated in the audit report, I have accepted all the recommendations made by the Director of Audit.  Some of the recommendations have already been implemented.  I shall arrange for the full implementation of the rest and shall work in cooperation with the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau (“CMAB”) in areas which involve them,” said Mr. Woo.

3.    “I am grateful to note that the Director of Audit recognizes in the audit report my efforts in abiding by the “moderate and conservative” principle in making expenditure decisions on overseas duty trips, in organizing international seminars and in minimizing hospitality expenditures. I am committed to continue managing public funds in a prudent, effective and accountable manner,” Mr. Woo added.

4.     Wishing to abide by the conventional protocol, the Privacy Commissioner will not at this stage express any views on the contents of the audit report.  He may however consider responding, where appropriate, to media enquiries seeking factual information.
