Privacy Commissioner Issues Privacy Compliance Self-Assessment Kit

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD) today issued a privacy compliance self-assessment kit to assist organisations in assessing whether their personal data management practices and procedures comply with the requirements of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance ("the Ordinance").

Entitled "Privacy.SAFE", the kit comprises a set of checklists, guidance notes and an interactive CD-ROM, designed to assist organisations in performing systematic and self-monitored checks on their personal data management practices on an on-going basis.

The kit categorises the requirements of the Ordinance into seven different groups comprising the six data protection principles, which are the core requirements of the Ordinance, and requirements on direct marketing. For each group, a corresponding checklist is provided, the checking of which will enable an organisation to ascertain its degree of compliance with the respective requirements of the Ordinance.

"'Privacy.SAFE' will assist an organisation in highlighting any potential areas of non-compliance with the Ordinance which need to be addressed, and increase an organisation's understanding of the requirements of the Ordinance," a spokesperson of the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data said.

Those interested in purchasing the kit can call the PCPD hotline at tel. no.: 2827 2827 for more details.
